Wow, what a great Opening Ceremony!!! I wish I had more photos but I was too busy to take them and forgot to pass my camera along to someone that would, so I only have a few. The festivities started with piper Arless McNeill. The doors to the main hall where closed and the reception was in the lobby of the PCCC. Mr. McNeill started his pipes inside the main hall . . . let me tell you, the sound of those magnificent pipes as they resonated through the hall still gives me goosebumps! Upon hearing the pipes, Staff Sgt. Brian Hunter and Staff Sgt. Major Marc Lavergne opened the doors to the hall and began the procession to the podium. Parksville City Mayor Chris Burger, Councillor Carrie Powell-Davidson, PCCC Executive Director Margaret Spruit and my wonderful husband Paul Smith rounded out the dignitaries.
We also enjoyed the music of a local brass ensemble under the skillful direction of Suzie Craven . . . how wonderful!!
I was escorted to the podium and introduced by artist extraordinaire Ken Kirkby.
Fortunately Paul had the foresight to hire a videographer to record the ceremonies so we should be posting something soon.
Thank You to everyone that attended and helped to make this such a wonderful event, and Thank You in particular to Margaret Spruit, the staff and board of directors of the PCCC for their generous support of this show. A very special Thank You also goes to Councillor Carrie Powell-Davidson who really is the driving force behind this show . . . her enthusiasm and support is part of what makes our these shows magical!
